Camp director Jeanne Hess has been the head volleyball coach for the Kalamazoo College Hornets since 1984 and has led the Hornets to 5 MIAA championships and 6 NCAA tournament appearances. Coach Hess was a 4-year letter winner in volleyball, as well as a captain at the University of Michigan - Ann Arbor, where she earned her bachelor's degree. She went on to earn a master's degree in exercise science from Western Michigan University in 1985. Prior to her arrival at Kalamazoo College, she ran successful high school volleyball programs at Ann Arbor Gabriel Richard, Dexter, and Kalamazoo Central. She was the Midwest Region Coach of the Year in 1990 and 1991. She is also a Professor of Physical Education at Kalamazoo College, and is the Chair of the Department of Physical Education and Athletics. |
First assistant coach Gus Dumlao joined the Hornet coaching staff in 2007, adding his wealth of knowledge that he has accumulated over the years. He has been a coach for many travel teams and has instructed numerous camps for the club USA MICHIGAN Volleyball. He coached in the Catholic Youth Organization in the metro Detroit area earlier in his career. He has coached at the high school level for a number of years in metro Detroit and his last high school experience was at Pewamo-Westphalia HS as varsity coach, where he led the Pirates in the 2005-06 season to an overall season record of 27-20-2 and went undefeated (13-0) in the Central Michigan Athletic Conference. Coach Dumlao is also the Mini-Volleyball Coordinator at Kalamazoo College with a mission to develop Mini-Volleyball in the KRESA region. |
